In this 'dys'-constellationdyslexia will often co-occur witha condition called dyspraxia.Now, I don't have much to sayabout dyspraxia because it's notvery much studied, andMichel Habib, in his book,The Dys-Constellation ... it's the firstthing he's saying about dyspraxia;there are not many studies on that.How ... can we define dyspraxia?It's a syndrome which includesdifficulties with motor... coordination, automatisms,and spatial/temporal organization.There is a delay inthe development of motor skills,which are sequences of movement made forinteracting with the environment.Let me give you a few examples.For example, dyspraxics willhave difficulties in dressing;they may put (on) their shoesbefore their pair of trousers.They will have difficultiesto coordinate their hands andtheir legs to ride a bike, for example;to put the letter in an envelope andseal it - they may seal the envelopebefore putting the letter in it.Tying their ... shoelaces is very complicated,... buttoning their shirts et cetera.These children often appear to be clumsy.Learning to read the hour isalso very difficult ...due to their difficulties withspatial/temporal organization.(dysprxia), because of the difficultieswith fine motor skills ...goes often hand-in-hand with ... dysgraphia,... ... ... which is the difficultyforming letters and that's why,especially with dyspraxic children,the computer is extremely important topreserve the self-esteem and because ... they will be unable to hold the pen andto trace letters correctly sothat someone else can read their writing.But watch out because theirverbal intelligence is,is completely normal,intact and often superior,there is sometimes intellectualprecocity in dyspraxic children.Conversally, their visual spatialability is usually more problematic.Dyspraxia is also very often defined,especially in the US,in the DSM4, it is referred to as DCD whichis developmental coordination disorder.Dyspraxic learners have a lotdifficulties with geometry;They can explain how to trace an angle,.. howto draw a line in a circle, et cetera, butthey won't be able to do it themselves.So one adaptation which you can do one to,fordysgra, dyspraxic learners,is to ask them to explain, how to doa geometrical problem, geometric problem,and you do it for them.Or you can use verynice free software likeGeoGebra, which you will find on Google.It is important to allow forthe use of computer as early as possible,possibly at the age of eight already.Gymnastics will also be difficult forthem because of the spatial -the difficulty withorientation in time and space.And dyspraxia, like dyslexia,goes often hand-in-hand with dyscalculia,and ... this is why ... the term of 'dys-constellation' makes sense.
