Exercise 1: Configuring Storage Groups and Database Files

Task 1: Create a storage group for the executive group by using the
Exchange Management Console
1.
On SYD-DC1, click
Start
, point to
All Programs
, point to
Microsoft Exchange
Server 2007
, and then click
Exchange Management Console
.
2.
If necessary, in the console tree, expand
Server Configuration
, and then click
Mailbox
.
3.
If necessary, in the result pane, click
SYD-DC1
.
4.
In the action pane, click
New storage group
.
5.
In the
Storage Group Name
box, type
Exec
. Notice that the default location for
these files is C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\Mailbox\Exec. The wizard
automatically creates the Exec folder.
6.
Click
New
to accept the default location.
7.
Read the
Completion
status. The command was successful. Notice that the Exchange
Management Shell command for this action is listed.
8.
Click
Finish
.

Task 2: Create a database for the executive group
1.
In the work pane, right-click
Exec
, and then click
New Mailbox Database
.
2.
In the
Mailbox database name
box, type
ExecMail
. Notice that the default path is
D:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\Mailbox\Exec\Execmail.edb.
3.
Click
New
.
4.
Read the
Completion
status. The command was successful. Notice that the Exchange
Management Shell command for this action is listed.
5.
Click
Finish
. Notice that ExecMail appears under the Exec storage group in the work
pane.

Task 3: Configure no mailbox limits for the executive group
1.
In the work pane, right-click
ExecMail
, and then click
Properties
.
2.
Click the
Limits
tab. Notice that limits are set for the executive group.
3.
Clear the
Issue warning at (KB)
option.
4.
Clear the
Prohibit send at (KB)
option.
5.
Clear the
Prohibit send and receive at (KB)
option.

Click
OK
. You have now removed all mailbox limits from the executive group’s
mailbox database.
7.
Close the Exchange Management Console.

Task 4: Create a storage group for the accounting group by using the
Exchange Management Shell
1.
Click
Start
, point to
All Programs
, point to
Microsoft Exchange Server 2007
, and
then click
Exchange Management Shell
.
2.
Type
New-StorageGroup Acct –Server SYD-DC1
, and then press ENTER. This
creates a storage group named Acct with the default options.
3.
Type
Get-StorageGroup –Server SYD-DC1
, and then press ENTER. This displays
all of the storage groups on SYD-DC1.

Task 5: Create a database for the accounting group
1.
Type
New-MailboxDatabase –StorageGroup SYD-DC1\Acct –Name AcctMail
and then press ENTER.
2.
Type
Get-MailboxDatabase –Server SYD-DC1
and then press ENTER. This
displays all of the mailbox databases on SYD-DC1. Notice that AcctMail is created
in the Acct storage group.

Task 6: Configure the database for the accounting group to prohibit
sending messages if the mailbox is over 100 MB
1.
Type
Set-MailboxDatabase AcctMail –IssueWarningQuota 80MB
and then press
ENTER.

Set-MailboxDatabase AcctMail –ProhibitSendQuota 100MB
and then press
ENTER.
